Twellow Review

Twellow is the so-called Twitter Yellow Pages. It contains an extensive list of Twitter profiles and sorts them out in their categories. Twellow provides a good venue for finding followers if you are starting out on Twitter or for finding followers if you are looking to study a certain aspect of the market. With the popularity of Twitter, it is inevitable to be plagued by spam and to be overloaded with information. Twellow’s goal is to “sort out the clutter”.

Home Page

When you visit Twellow, you will be greeted with a huge list of categories and some tweets on the left. These categories are where the profiles are located. You may take the time to surf through the categories to point out your interests. Remember that being effective on Twitter does not only mean that you make quality tweets. You should also have quality followers. Twellow helps you in meeting people who have the same interests or field.

Getting Listed

Getting listed is as easy as one, two, three. All you need to do is visit the sign-up page. Twellow usually approves and get you listed in a category based on the keywords on your profile. In most cases, you do not need to add yourself at all. Twellow is on a constant lookout for new but quality Twitter profiles which they add to their directory. All it takes is to have a picture and bio in your Twitter account.

The Good

Twellow really lives up to its name. It has a diverse amount of categories. I would say they are at about a hundred and each category caters to a specific niche. This is really helpful in connecting with people who have specific interests.

Also, with the amount of categories that the site has, a person can extend himself and follow people in multiple categories. It has a handy “follow” button so you can directly follow anyone and it will appear in your account. If you keep your interests in check and only follow people who have similar interests as yours, then Twitter will be a fun place to hang out for you.

The Bad

Twellow claims to try to “sort all of the clutter”. However, I find the site pretty cluttered as well. The rankings of people in each category are not sorted by relevance but on join date. For example, I opened the Business category and found around 167 pages of user profiles. Of course I will not go through the time and trouble of surfing all of those pages and following everyone. But I do understand where Twellow has come from. It is created back when there are only a few Twitter users.

A ranking algorithm in their directory will be helpful. Twitter today is not all about the quantity of followers anymore. It is now more focused on quality. There is nothing better than following people who are authorities on their niches.

Overall

But in the end, Twellow is an extensive list of Twitter profiles. If you have friends, you can simply type their names and they will show up if they are registered in the directory. There is also the new Twellowhood feature where you can follow people who live near your area. Now that is convenient. It really can be called a Twitter Yellow Pages.
